Sungguminasa city is the capital of Gowa, directly adjacent to the city of Makassar. In this city there is the Palace of Balla 'Lompoa, relics of the Kingdom of Gowa. In this city also lies the tomb of the kings of Gowa Sultan Hasanuddin and ancestors as well as his successors.

In addition to the tombs of kings of Gowa, there is also the famous tomb of Joseph Syech to Madagascar, India, and South Africa, as well as the tomb of the Kingdom Palakka White Bone.

The first mosque in South Sulawesi, which was built in about the year 1600 AD is also found in the city, not far from the tomb of Joseph Sych and the family cemetery of the kings of Gowa and White Palakka.

In the midst of this city, the river flows upstream Je'ne'berang the start of the Mountain Lompo 'Battang City Tourism Malino and empties into the South Makassar Makassar through the south side of the former Fort Somba Opu the former stronghold of the kings of Gowa.

Sungguminasa city is also the capital of Gowa regency.
